What firewood is suitable for a campfire?

You have purchased a fire bowl and are looking forward to experiencing the magical campfire magic with family & friends. But there is still something missing - namely the right firewood. Because ideally, the wood logs should burn for a long time and thus ensure a beautiful campfire - and also not be too expensive. Since we want to help you have perfect campfire experiences that will be remembered, we deal in this blog post what you should look for when buying firewood.

How do I make the perfect campfire on the stainless steel fire bowl?

1. select suitable baking material

For this purpose, we distinguish the fuel into two different types: such to light the firewood and, of course, the actual firewood. To light the firewood is suitable dry, quickly flammable material that burns down quickly. Here, of course, you can use grill lighter as a chemical variant - but it is also easier to use ferns, pine needles, dry leaves or birch bark. The important thing here is that the kindling is really dry. Once your chosen material has been lit and is catching flames, you should add dry twigs to hold the flame. Thus, the first step would be done. But what kind of firewood should you buy now?

2. the different types of wood suitable for a cozy campfire on the fire bowl.

Here we do without complicated heating values and measurement methods. After all, you want to know which firewood is suitable for a campfire on the fire bowl, not make scientific studies. For this reason, we have kept the following passages as simple as possible.

Wood from hardwood trees or broad-leaved trees are the most suitable for beautiful campfire evenings, because with this wood there is an even, comfortable heat emission. But which types of wood are now included?

Particularly suitable are:

  • Beech
  • Maple
  • Robinia
  • Ash
  • Birch
  • Cherry

And the best thing here is that these are native tree species. But do not go into the forest and saw the trees - this is prohibited, and the wood is not suitable anyway, because they would not be dry.

In addition to the types of wood mentioned above, there are other woods that you can use for a campfire, which are also cheaper in price.

  • Pine
  • Fir
  • Spruce

The difference between this and the "higher-quality" woods is that these types of wood emit more sparks and the sooting is stronger. However, you could counteract this, for example, by a suitable spark protection for your fire bowl. The firewood of these tree species, which we have used so far, was qualitatively okay and the sparking was to be rated as mild, so that we did not find this annoying. Thus, you can also use these woods.

Question: I have the opportunity to buy freshly cut wood - can I use it for a campfire?

Freshly cut wood contains a lot of water, which is even about half the weight. For this reason, you must first store this wood. To do this, choose a place with good sunlight and sufficient air supply. Of course, the place should be protected from rain and other environmental influences. It is also important that you do not cover the wood with foil, as there is a risk of rotting. After storage for over a year, you can now use the wood for the campfire. It is best to write down when you stored the wood and when you expect to be able to use the wood. Here is also possible to stack the wood after different storage times.

Never use wood that is still wet. This is harmful to the environment and inefficient, as it requires more energy to burn the wood.

Now you know which types of wood are suitable for a campfire. Now nothing stands in the way of the perfect campfire experience!

Here you can get to the magical campfire magic...
